How does Cold Storage work?
Cold Storage stores your data selections to secure and reliable extremely low cost Amazon AWS server. There is no special configuration from the original backup except that you choose what files to backup to Cold Storage.
Why should I use Cold Storage?
You should use cold storage with archived data, and data does not require instant access. It's a cost effective way to store rarely accessed data.
How can I select which data to backup as cold storage?
From the Metiix Hybrid client installed on your machine, go to data selection, then select the cold storage tab and add files and folders. The Smart Selection and My Computer selections will be backed up to the regular storage.
How secure is cold storage??
Cold storage is just as secure as Metiix Hybrid's instant storage. Your files undergo 3 levels of encryption:
- 256-AES machine level encryption
- Transferred via secure sockets layer
- Stored using encrypted 256-AES Server Side encryption.
How durable is cold storage?
The service superfluously stores data in multiple facilities and on multiple devices within each facility. Unlike traditional systems which can require laborious data verification and manual repair, AWS storage performs regular, systematic data integrity checks and is built to be automatically self-healing.
What happens to files selected both on Cold Storage and Instant Storage?
Metiix Hybrid will only store them once on Instant Storage. If you wish to store on Cold Storage, please only select them under cold storage tab in the Metiix Hybrid client.
Does it support backing up external, network, SANs and NAS?
Yes, just from the client side, go to Data selection> Click on Cold Storage> Add Folder and browse for the designated source to backup from. You can also specify file filtering options from File Filters.
Is there a file size limitation?
No, you can backup any file no matter how large.
How Can I restore files from the web?
- Go to the Metiix Hybrid web console
- Click on My Computers
- Navigate to the Cold Storage folder
- Select the files you wish to restore
- Once they are ready; in approximately 3-5 hours, you will receive an email with a link to access these files
- Open the link, select the files you wish to restore and click download
Is Cold Storage a separate solution from Instant Storage?
Cold Storage stores your data selections to secure and reliable extremely low cost Amazon Glacier. There is no special configuration from the original backup except that you choose what files to backup to Cold Storage.
Is the Cold Storage backup separate from the Instant Storage backup?
You only need to configure one backup, just under cold storage tab specify which files to backup there and use Smart Selection and My Computer to backup your other files to the regular instant restore storage.
Does it support backing up databases like Microsoft SQL Server?
Metiix Hybrid is a file level backup service. It is great for backup and archival to incredibly durable and inexpensive storage. Metiix offers several other backup services that do a great job protecting data for Microsoft SQL Server or Microsoft Exchange.
